METAL CUSPIDOR — in 1942 the Office of Strategic Services issued this cuspidor, sometimes called a spittoon, to its senior geographer. It is 20 cm across and 14.5 cm high, silver in colour, and it stayed in the office. For more than sixty years the senior geographers at CIA made a tradition of passing it down to their successors — a spittoon as an heirloom, handed from one mapmaker to the next.

CIA employs geographers and cartographers within the Directorate of Analysis. The artwork prints the cuspidor as a woodcut block, cut as bold shapes with the knife marks left in.

Garment: Comfort Colors 1717, 6.1 oz garment-dyed cotton, S–4XL. Front print only; plain back. Artwork approximately 10 × 10 in, QR approximately 1.8 × 1.8 in.

Colours: the shirt is offered in both dark and light garment colours — the pale cream block print on Black, Graphite, Espresso, Navy and Pepper, and the same woodcut struck in black ink on White, Ivory, Butter, Chalky Mint, Blossom, Light Green and Chambray.

Care: machine wash cold, inside out, tumble dry low. Do not iron the print directly.
